I adapted an old Racing Wheel of the PlayStation 2 with spring return to connect it to the gameport, the adaptation was not a problem, I followed the schematics for Gameport and Windows 98 detect it (not as it should however). Being 3 axes and 4 buttons if it imposed it in this way in the game peripherals does not detect it,
So I tested other modes that seem to work.

However, I have problems making it recognized at F1 GP2 and other games, something likes me: "the axis is too short "and the brake axis is not detected.

The second problem is that the signal seems unstable also the calibration, Only on the pedals.
The steering wheel is configured in this way (Pin refer to Gameport male connector):
Steering - Axis X - Pin3+5V pin1 - potentiometer 10k <---yes, 10k
Accelerator - Y axis - Pin 6+5V pin1 - potentiometer 100k
Brake - Axis Z - Pin 11+5V pin1 - potentiometer 100k
1,2,3,4 buttons - Pin 2,7,14.10+GND pin 4 and 5 connected together (the buttons works correctly)

Could you help me solve these problems?

Am I understanding this correctly the potentiometers are only connected with +5v and wiper, not with ground as well?

Exactly, they are not and should not be connected to ground
