The attachment 514pKZo9WfL._SX522_.jpg is no longer available

16 MIDI input channels and 16 MIDI output channels
LEDs indicate energy, MIDI on and MIDI from USB bus
Requires no external power supply
Supports Windows XP, Windows 7
Cable length: 2.0 m

So given this midi cable. It works fine in Linux/WinXP out of the box.
However in 98SE I cannot get this working it BSODs the box left and right.

At connection Win98 would recognize it, in the first round as USB composite device then for the second round it says USB Audio device then it offers to copy the kernel stuff, whether I say to keep the old stuff or overwrite it BSODs, after that the system cannot be started anymore so I just roll back partimage.

I tried these:

https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_prod … 5-b6b3a55a6ab5/

They install but it dont want to recognize it for the device.

why do you think it should work under 98 if it's not a listed supported OS, not to mention trying to install it with roland drivers?

also that thing can't transmit sysex data correctly, a roland or other quality interface is needed for that.

Why shouldn't it work? 😉
Many noname USB soundcards sold on Ebay work out of the box win Win98 as I said that cable works flawlessly with other OSes XP/Linux.
As last resort I will build a gameport midi cable for it...

Some of the cheapest USB MIDI adapters don't buffer properly which results in truncated SYSEX messages. It's also not uncommon for these adapters to leave out optical isolation.
