Was kind of surprised to see my old post still getting replies! I have been using the patches in this FTP directory to enable the Tandy 3-voice sound: http://ftp.oldskool.org/pub/TandySoundPatches/isa/1e0/

This box is still going strong and is one of my most used old computers, I'm now using an HP D1182A monitor with it which provides a very similar image as the IBM PS/2 monitor from my memories (matte screen and very sharp text) as that trisync monitor in the original post is better used elsewhere. If you're considering a computer like this, forget about the Tandy VGA monitors unless you really value everything matching as the picture quality is truly horrible. The matching mouse and keyboard are also very bad, I'm currently using a model M keyboard and "period correct" Logitech mouse. I've also added an Etherlink III NIC and a Cyrix 387SX FPU (for all the good that does, lol). I plan to upgrade the HDD at some point as what's in there is just what I had lying around at the time and it's getting full. Going to use another mechanical drive, I want to hear hard drive noises from this particular machine.

The volume pot is now shot and no amount of deoxit will fix it, so I assume there is internal damage (sound still works if it is held in one spot but at a very high volume). Anyone know what the part number is or where to get a drop-in replacement? Examining the pot itself or the Tandy parts list yields no info.

I didn't realize this post was so old but if you still have the Tseng here's the info for those jumpers:

Also a very super nice setup you got there, looks so period correct!

SUN85: NEC PC-8801mkIIMR
SUN92: Northgate Elegance | 386DX-25 | Orchid Fahrenheit 1280 | SB 1.0
SUN97: QDI Titanium IE | Pentium MMX 200MHz | Tseng ET6000 | SB 16
SUN00: ABIT BF6 | Pentium III 1.1GHz | 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 | AU8830

Curious, if these patches are working well for you. Have you run into any problems?

No problems so far, though sometimes it's not so self explanatory like in the case of Indianapolis 500. For that one you actually have to go to the normal games directory (for people using a homebrew Tandy sound card) on that FTP and get the inditnd.exe from the Indianapolis 500 folder there. Only once you have that will the indy.1 file in the 1e0 directory do anything. Though this is the only game I've seen so far that needs something like this, most stuff just works as you'd expect (though I haven't patched everything that can be patched on my HDD yet, I'll make sure to update here if anything else presents problems).

On another topic, I've removed the ET4000 from this machine. I upgraded the onboard Cirrus CL-GD5402 to the max 512MB of VRAM and found that it has a much sharper output with better contrast and no tearing in games like Indianapolis 500. It's honestly a really impressive VGA chip. I don't miss the extra 512MB of video memory from the Tseng, kinda pointless on a 386 that isn't running Windows. Also I needed the slot for a AHA-1542CF SCSI card I'm putting in to replace the HDD with a 2GB 7200 RPM 50 pin drive and use external SCSI stuff.

I'm sorry that is my fault. In case you didn't understand yet, i'm the author of all those patches and been managing the FTP.

Check the main page of the Tandy patching project redux, in the first post you have an excel spreadsheet (you need to rename the file to XLSX extension), and that has some important info about what generally should be done to make things work. I forgot to include the INDYTND.EXE executable, it defeats the Tandy 1000 BIOS check and necessary for machines that do not have it.

I'll be correcting that as soon as i can.

I've been actually been hoping that someone with such a Tandy machine would test the patches, and i'm really happy that all the work and effort put into this project is useful to someone.

Oh wow, I had no idea (I don't really spend much time on the forum). Thanks so much for this awesome resource! I'll definitely let you know directly if I come across anything else.

EDIT: Also if there is anything specific you need tested on real hardware, let me know and I'll be happy to do so.

I've added the INDYTND executable in to accompany the INDY.1 file. I also noticed that I forgot to upload the 2C0 port Indy 500 patch to the ftp and corrected that too. In any case, i highly recommend that 1E0h should be the standard for everyone, only use 2C0h if you have problems with 1E0h on non Tandy PC's. In my case, with both the PicoMEM and a Lo-Tech card, port 1E0h works absolutely great.
