VOGONS

Hi, guys!

I've tried updating the board to the latest bios but it seems that the bios wasn't the right one. As I have found out, it seems that this board is actually a KD7A rebranded as a KV7 which mislead me to believe I could use the bios for a KV7 which resulted in a blockage. The board posts, but the boot block cut the video and I only hear a long beep and two other short beeps which is code for video error. Anyway, it can boot the floppy for a bios restore very well but, as I have tried many options, none work and the booting sequence stops. There must be something wrong I'm doing.
@ECHO OFF
@AWDFLASH BIOSFILE.BIN /cc /py /sn /r
This is what I copied into the autoexec.bat file and it still doesn't work. I've used the latest bios which is KDV_15, and I guess it's the right one. The initial timestamp of the bios is 07/25/2003 which corresponds to the KD7A version.

Anyway, what else can I do to make it bootable and repair it? It's frustrating!

Thank you!

Not sure if any of this will help in your case, but have a look here... https://web.archive.org/web/20060702090641/ht … /bootblock.html ...particularly the section at the bottom regarding the use of the /F and /QI options to restore an incorrectly flashed board.

It looks like the bios is socketed on that mobo -- do you have a programmer?

I've just bought a T48 programmer, it's definitely better and faster than my last one and I hope I could write the original bios on it again. It's a PLCC32 chip, so I think it's going to be easy to fix it. I've done this before, but with my SPI Ch341A programmer which cannot be used here since I don't have the right adapter. Anyway, it's a good board and I've noticed it was recapped with Rubycon caps so it was a pretty good deal, besides the failed bios update. 😀

My other project is to recap Abit VL6, it worked for a while then it stopped, since its capacitors are quite dead, at least some of them.
