Hi Vogons,
I just came across a very old file in my driver archive on my harddrive which was the June 99 Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo2/Banshee mini-GL driver update.
It's most prominent item in the changelog is that it forces (?) 512x512 resolution textures to be used.
I ran this driver on my 3D Blaster Banshee AGP back then and since I always prefered picture quality over framerates I was satisfied, *but* I never did a side-by-side comparison or the picture quality nor the framerates. According to the readmes of the following version of that driver that feature stayed until Creative ended support for the those cards.
I'm opening this topic to see if anyone did do those quality & framerate comparisons back then or even better more recently and I'm really curious if anyone here does know how it actually worked under the hood considering that the actual Voodoo2 & Banshee hardware could certainly not do 512x512 in hardware.
Greets!

On a Voodoo2, it's an unstable thrashing novelty.

@marxveix It's already on http://www.3dfx.info/minigl.htm , look at the three items in the lower table. Make sure to also check the info links on the right column.

@leileilol What's the result of the trashing?
