pt-2003
pcb 1.3
Award BIOS 3.072E803
Award BIOS 3.072I803

Whats the difference between these files?

Iam only think off is that the E version is perhaps for OEM boards?
And the I is for Retail boards?

What the right way if right now i have a corrupted bios (see lot of characters flowing (bit rot) on the screen) to update it?
Do i need a new EEPROM? or just erase this one instead.

Hi Robin,

This is indeed not mentioned on TRW, but the FIC PT-2003 boards can have different Super I/O chips.
The “E” BIOS versions are for boards with the SMC 665 I/O chip.
The “I” BIOS versions are for boards with an UMC 669 I/O chip.

Which BIOS version do you have now, and does it correspond with the I/O chip?

When flashing a (new) BIOS, the flash program will verify the flashchip contents after the flash phase and reports an error if the flash was unsuccessful.
If you don’t get this error message, you know the flashchip is fine.

Cheers, Jan

First it was the videocard that made these bad characters on screen (perhaps faulty memory) (i will test soon)
But bios doesnt seems to be corrupted.

But still have to update it to a newer version.
And its better to reflash the board again due age, instead it is maybe in a few months broken.

About the I/O chip, i have to check the board for that. Iam guessing SMC.

EDIT:

I checked and its UMC.

I got an older version on this board

Ver 3.048703

Its from 1995 (so yes i have to update it)

Is there a list which changes these newer updates make.

The board is a Version 1.3 PCB.
