I have it running MIDI for DOS games with the Live doing Windows MIDI through the second MIDI IN port on the SC-55 and the setup works alright as-is, but I'll explore doing that as well tomorrow. Haven't tested to see if it affects Half-Life but I imagine/hope not.
How did you go? I take it from the lack of noise that things seem to have stabilised
Whoops, been busy and haven’t gotten a chance to update.
Haven’t set the card for full MIDI, but I have tested Half-Lofe. The stuttering is a little worse than with just a SBLive, but that may also be because I have the S-Video port on the Voodoo3 turned on for streaming this PC to some friends on Discord.
I don’t think there’s a hardware solution I can find for this game short of just building a new rig. The issue is at the point where the audio will just skip a bit every so often, so I don’t think it justifies spending that kind of money when Half-Life is the only game that’s misbehaving (aside from Harvester, anyway).
The only other thing I haven’t tried is overclocking, but since this board doesn’t have a 1/4 PCI divider I gotta be careful. Might try that this evening.
