Hi! I had power ac adapter problem but it seems ok now. My system is a Dell inspiron 8100, Pentium III 1000mhz, 512mb ( tried with 256mb already ) geforce2go 16mb, win98 se, directx 9.0c. But used directx 8.1 before reinstalled nfs porsche. it was working with 8.1 directx before. I hope i dont have to reinstall win98se we cant downgrade directx if i'm right.

I tried several drivers:

official geforce2go driver 17 81
omega driver 43.45
omega driver 44.03
omega driver 45.43
for the sound card i tried the maestro 3 vxd and wmd driver.
i reinstall i f intel chipset 815 driver from dell.

I have 100% exactly the same problem that person had several years ago:

https://forums.nexusmods.com/topic/7819-need- … sche-unleashed/
... on the link: ( My problem is the game freezes and repeats a tiny clip of music over and over again right after the 'create a new character' screen. Then it pops back to my desktop, in a very low resolution, which in turn fixs itself restoring my computer back to normal. )

itd hard to explain, see the link. But as soon as i created a profile, the game frooze, make a music bug and return to desktop in another resolution. the demo works. so i tried transfer the profile from the demo and it works in official nfs porsche game. but as soon as i clicked any tab, display, graphics option... it froze the same way.

I tried the game at version 1.0 and updated with patch 3.5. game installed with original cd full install

I dont want to use patch that enhance nfs5, i played them already this way on my modern system
i want to play nfs in its original state with win98 with my dell inspiron 8100. 3.5 patch was a offical patch, if i remember well.

Need for speed hot pursuit iii and iv high stakes work great on my dell inspiron.

Thanks for help.

I reinstalled porsche unleashed several times and it didnt work anymore.

Edit: i use eract directx and reinstall directx 8.1 and still do the same problem.
If nobody has a idea i will reinstall win98 se. Thanks

everything resolved ! hurray ! it was my feeling. With official Dell Driver 17.60 no keyboard problem happen. The problem is because of the omega nvidia driver 45.23. i didnt tried other omega version yet, but it i remember well digital vibrance begin in 45.23. No digital vibrance for me 🙁 in 45.23 i always put digital vibrance to max for more colors in my inspiron 8100 lcd screen. If you have any idea to help me, any driver, let me know. otherwise it's fine for now. i'm curious about what cause this keyboard problem in 45.23. Thanks guys

Note: by the way, earlier when i installed it, i just not only installed the nfs5 in default directory, but i cleaned the disc too, it was dirty, but i don't think it could have been that. who knows ! thanks to everyone

Edit: Digital vibrance has been release since version 6.xx ( read release note of 45.23 )
i found it in the dell drivers, but at another place )

Edit: i tested a long time, no problem with 43.45. ( i tried back 45.23 same keyboard problem, i will stay at 43.45 )

Actually, it's interesting that you noted this.
While I also think the dirty CD might not have been the problem here, I do know for a fact that NFS 5 installation (even the full game install) does -not- copy the game music and movies from the CD and rather only accesses them from the CD. So perhaps if there was a read error with those on the CD, maybe that could have caused the crash too?

In any case, I always copy the game music and movie files onto the local drive so that the game doesn't have to constantly spin the CD up and down. Actually, I don't even bother with the CD after initial install, since I always install a NO-CD patch. As much as I have nostalgia for CD and do like to install my games from physical media (floppy or CD/DVD), I have zero nostalgia for running any of my retro games with the CD - it just adds unnecessary noise from the drive and not to mention wears down the drive too.
