Hello,

I've just finished repairing (at least I thought I did) 2 Voodoo 12MB cards, the Helios 3D version that bought in a broken state: http://www.tdfx.de/eng/helios_v2.shtml
One had multiple 22ohms resistor packages failing (like more than 10 of them)
The other had a broken pin on the FBI chip and some corrosion under the GenDac.

The 2 cards are now experiencing the same issue which is, only 2MB is detected per TMU.
However the card works just fine under Screamer 2.
I've played the game for a good 10 minutes with no crash or video corruption.

So I am wondering if it's my Mojo version which is misbehaving as this is quite a coincidence.

What can I test at this point in terms of software to confirm the lack of VRAM detected?
Otherwise in which direction should I look when the card is working but isn't detecting the right RAM amount please?

Here is the Mojo output:
download/file.php?mode=view&id=231284

Here are some pictures of the card (and yes, I am aware of the 2 missing caps but these are for the power supply. The other card does have them all with the same symptoms)

Have you tried Windows 98 with the latest drivers? You'll get an system info button in the Voodoo driver panel in the desktop settings interface. This will report the memory available. 3DMark 99 will also report the amount of video memory it can see.

Screamer 2 3DFX only uses a single tmu and 2mb maximum (probably less). So at least the first 2mb of the first tmu is good on the card you tested it with. Quake2 will use both tmu's.

If the autoexec.bat file contains the line SET SST_TMUMEM_SIZE=2, then Mojo.exe will report 2MB TMU

Well, thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I went down the rabbit hole of installing Windows 98 on this old Pentium 133 (Venturis FX5133) and that was painful.
I am aware this machine is clearly bottlenecking the Voodoo2 but this is for test purposes for now.

Anyhow, I got the 3Dfx drivers installed and I am now getting the right amount of VRAM detected on both card however I also know I have some more work to do as one of the card clearly is crashing the system.
I've tried running the 3DMark99 demo (wouldn't even start) and the benchmark but got some picture corruption and then it froze.
What do you guys think?

The other card will run the benchmark fine (getting an average of 10fps in 640x480 under 3DMark99) so I'll be testing this one with Quake2 and other games, but time to move it to a more modern machine.

What driver did you use. I generally avoid FastVoodoo when troubleshooting/fault finding.

I believe I am using the Voodoo2 Driver kit 3.01.01.

In the end, I believe this card will need a recap.
I don't see any caps warming up but some look pretty corroded and worn.
