Hey all
I've heard about this forum for years and just never made an account usually I can manage this shit myself but this particular computer is driving me insane.
I recently bought a Gateway G6-266m I has a 266mhz P2 in it and I purchased a 350mhz P2 to upgrade it with but we're not even there yet.
This nightmare of a dick has a STB Nitro DVD that refused to eat any of its Win98 drivers. No matter if it's the S3 ones or not. It also has an Ensoniq sound card that tries to uninstall its drivers any time I try to install them.
I'm at my wits end with this pile of possible e-waste. This thing has basically fought me since I purchased it. Oh you didn't like that RAM stick ok here's two more oh thank God you liked one of those. Yay.
I get 98 installed on you? The VMM vxd flips the hell out and no matter what I did it freaked. I had to boot into safe mode in the middle of install so it didn't then reboot. Yay.
Finally get into 98 and it installs my Voodoo 2 driver just fine (the Voodoo 2 is the entire reason I bought this thing I wanted it to have a home and not sit in a drawer) it absolutely vomits any time I try anything else.
I've tried drivers from Phil. From here. Everywhere. And that's fine I have plenty of CDs I can burn and then not worry about. That's all well and good. But this bastard wanted to just be a dick one last time.
I bought a 350mhz Pentium 2 to replace the 266 that comes in this nightmare and every time I boot the stupid bastard it automatically clocks itself at 233.
Now if I wanted to be destitute with a 233 P2 I'd kill myself and wake back up when I was 11. I've been through it before. It ran the original Delta Force just fine I guess at 320x240 yay.
I searched all over the board and I don't know of any jumpers to set. So I ask you all as a man and someone who just wants a fun P2 machine to mess with.
Does anyone have schematics for this board? Can anyone try to figure out why this thing hates me?
Does it need an exorcist? I don't know. It came to me with an OEM CD Drive that works perfectly. It fights me on everything else. The thing must think it got married to me the way it thinks. It just wants to disagree for no reason half the time. I hate this computer right now.
So please. All of you who I am well aware are far smarter than I am. Please. Please help me if you can. I'm 49 seconds away from taking it for a ride into the local river with how it's acting.
Pleas help. I've attached a picture of it spewing nonsense one time during Win98 installation but that was before I replaced the RAM with a known good stick.
If you cannot help just please give me a hug. I stare at this thing day in and out now like a scolded child wondering why it won't behave.
