Not really sure if I overspent on this or not, but I couldn't resist.

It wasn't really labeled correctly but it was pretty close (they said it was an Asus card). When I saw the card I thought "Oh wow... that looks similar to a Yuan 3DS-100 NV1..." and sure enough, this is a Yuan Riva 128! I don't think these are real common, and I can't find any other pictures of this exact version with the TV outputs or any with retail boxes and the original printed ad\poster. I own a 3DS-100 so I thought it'd be cool to have one of these in my collection too. It seems Yuan couldn't make up their mind about what to call it either... AGP-300S REV:1.2, Hyper-speed, "Vitra" series, 3DS-2000... it could be all of these. 😅

It's interesting that both Diamond and YUAN gave Nvidia a second shot after the NV1 flopped. The Riva 128 was a ridiculously huge improvement over the NV1 though, so that probably helped.

Does anyone know what became of Yuan? Not too many companies just vanished back then... they all got renamed or ended up a part of something else eventually.

EDIT: Oh! That wasn't too hard. Yuan High-Tech still exists! They are apparently one of the brands owned by Palit Microsystems, alongside Gainward, Galax\Galaxy, Xpertvision and others. They are very much still heavily connected with nvidia too.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Got a noname Taiwanosium VGA monitor dated 1991. Picture is still pretty bright but it has some purity issues I have to address, maybe the rings will fix it.
My oldest VGA so far, had to replace a bunch of leaky caps before they blew.
I actually like these distorted colors in some games, looks like this red Chevrolet got a new cool paintjob. 😁

Is that Street Rod? (or Hot Rod depending on the platform IIRC)

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

It's Street Rod indeed, the colors just changed a bit. Nostalgic to play a 1989 game on a 1991 "super brand new tech" monitor.
Turns out it's a TRL Cx1469 made by Royal Information Electronics, a known clone monitor manufacturer.

Bought this dirty-rusty artifact for $15 to see if that Ti4200 is still kicking. It is.

Where do you find those auctions? I feel like I'm on another planet as there is nothing resembling this around me.

I know what you mean but sometimes places like antique malls and thrift stores have this kind of stuff, heck sometimes you can email places and they will let you pick up some of the stuff they are getting rid of!

Small local auction sites and Marketplace. Last time there was a working dual slot1 board for sale for $7 (know the seller, he is crazy) and I missed it by a mere few seconds. You basically have to be on these sites all the time with tons of listing notifications set. It's a race, blink for a second and you lost.

Freecycle was like that when people used to post old computers, unless you were scanning every few minutes you would miss it.

Freecycle is now commercialised, probably eBay harvesters.

No idea, I quit using Freecycle a long ,long time ago.

Once more people started collecting computers people started using craigslist and charging at least a minimum for hardware.

What a beauty. Apparently broken, but I haven't got time to test her yet.
Another one on my list.

I once found a listing of a commodore 64 for 5 euros on FB and when I checked the AD was up only 2 minutes ago - yes TWO MINUTES
I scrambled to find the phone and call the man ... I managed to leave home immediately and when I got to the man's place 30 minutes later he told me his phone had already rang like 50 times !
Fortunately I managed to get it ! My one and only C64.

its fking insane ... you list a C64 for 100 euros and it stays there for 10 years, you list it for 5 euros and it is gone in 10 seconds

Hi Neil ! Welcome !

Well 386/486/Pentium motherboards with battery damage is what we eat here for breakfast in this hobby !

Good luck repairing it ! There are many inspirational videos on youtube on how to do it from awesome people like Necroware, BuB, Toby359 etc
Fortunately MB manufacturers were clever enough to understand the risk of leakage and placed the battery on the least compromising section of the motherboards.
Most (but not all) damage is usually localized to the keyboard, clock or power circuits !

Have fun !
