Try XMSDSK instead. It can work from the command prompt; you can choose the drive letter; you can resize or disable it as needed, and it can create RAM drives >32MB. You can find it at https://dosprograms.info.tt/indexall.htm#utils.

I have used IBM PC-DOS "DYNALOAD" command without any issues to load an entire set of device drivers, even some I custom made for my own purposes. It has the benefit of being extremely small and you can prepend LH to load the driver into the high memory area.

It is freely and legally available from the "IBM ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit version 1.3.07" which you can easily download after a simple Google search.

Which version of SoundBlaster has this? My SB Pro and SB16 installs did not include CTLOAD. But maybe I didn't do full or original installs, I can't recall. And like all the other programs like this, there may be limitations on how well it works - but nice to know there is another option.

Another aspect here is "period correct" systems. On my 1992 386, I avoid any post-1992 software (which is why I put MS-DOS 5 on there) to keep it closer an "authentic experience." So tracking down when CTLOAD first became available would be good (tentatively it seems to be a post Win95 thing).

It was uploaded on December 8th, 1995 and it probably came with CD-Rom drives : "Lets you load CDROM drivers when restarting in Win95's DOS mode"
