I opened a small Socket 939 haul this morning; can't wait to put these parts to good use.

That's quite the nice haul. I had a BFG 7950GT back in the day what a great card
Thanks! The 7950 GT was the card I wished I had back then. It's a real "sweet spot" GPU for this particular era.
I'm glad I've got this motherboard, memory, and GPU. I'll probably throw the CPU in the trash. I've already got a 3200+ Venice chip.
Okay, the CPU is gone. The trash was picked up!
Now, I can build a good system.
Can you guys let me know if the 7950 is a good match for my Venice 3200+?
I've got a Sapphire X800 GTO; the Nvidia card might be worthless to me.
I'll try it out and report back.
Now I'm worried about power. Should I use my Entermax PSU or an antique model?

Power should not be a problem with modern PSU. Athlon 64 uses 12v more than 5v.

I think the CPU may bottleneck the 7950 GT, but it will get as much out of that platform as it can give. X800 GTO is more period correct
I hope I misread that you're going to throw an FX 60 in the trash.
i386 16 ⇒ i486 DX4 100 ⇒ Pentium MMX 200 ⇒ Athlon Pluto 700 ⇒ AthlonXP 1700+ ⇒ Opteron 165 ⇒ Dual Opteron 856

It's already in the bin.. oops.

I was only kidding 😊
I would never throw an FX-60 (or any CPU, really) in the trash.
I was also kidding about the "Entermax" or "antique" power supply choice. Just a little bit of retro PC humor (that probably didn't quite land 😊).
Although it's not entirely period correct, I'm going to use an Antec Signature SG-650 for this build. It's a power supply that I have quite a bit of appreciation for.

Yeah, I thought you probably were. But didn't want to assume.
The power supply joke was lost on me though. Haha.

I hate to be the guy who has to explain his "jokes" but it appears I am very much that guy:
"Entermax" = Enermax (well known PSU makers since as long as I can remember)
"Antique" = Antec (used to be a top PSU brand that relied on top OEMs like Delta and Seasonic)
I've opened the 7950 GT box and it appears I've got a XFX 7950 GT Extreme Edition Passive in pretty good shape; I'm chuffed.

Haha. Yep. I missed that. I thought Entermax was some kinda cheap Chinese clone, and by antique I just thought you meant old.

Looks great. Nice find. Just be careful with airflow in your case, or that could get toasted.

Thanks, and you're right to point that out. I'll take care to keep the airflow generous.
