Back in 2008 I had a passively cooled 8800 GTS 512. It is still alive today. Good case airflow is key.

I have had a few passively cooled gpus, 6600gt and later and they tend to die more frequently than actively cooled.

A good fit for s939 is gtx 260, 275, 480 or newer budget cards such as 750.

I completely understand your skepticism. I'll keep the airflow up and see what the temps look like after some benchmarks.
