Yes RGBs is analogue, however CGA is RGBi and that is TTL, not analogue. Your monitor just has both sets of decoder circuitry.

Certainly does but doesn’t help to make the 15khz analog signal compatible with vga

So, is there a reason why the background on a Tandy 1000 with this would be green? The device works, but I get a green background instead of black.image.jpg

The output on my T1000 is crisp an clear, why does yours look so ugly?

Apologies for necroposting but I figured it's better to continue this thread than start a new one.

I purchased an MCE2VGA in 2021 but didn't come around to tresting it today. Connected my IBM PC model 5150 with a CGA graphics card to the MCE2VGA, which was connected to the VGA port on a Sony KDL-32P2530 TV. According to pages 26-27 in the manual(*) the VGA port should handle 640x480 at 31.5kHz/60Hz, 800x600 at 37.9kHz/60Hz, and a few other.

No matter how I set the dip switches and pressed the Reset and other buttons I only got "No sync", with the occasional "Wrong frequency", error messages on screen.

I can't find any hard info about what requirements there are on the display one connects an MCE2VGA to. Can anyone tell me what displays/TVs can hande the signal from the MCE2VGA?

32" television? I can recommend all my working Nec monitors. 51vm 71vm 1930nxp 193mi and perhaps there are more, even with bigger size.

Yeah, that was the only thing with VGA in available.

So do I need to find a monitor/TV which supports 15kHz horizontal frequency in order to use the MCE2VGA? I was kinda hoping that the MCE2VGA would output a signal that most modern monitors/TVs could handle.

NO it's not a SCANDOUBLER so 15/18/21 Khz input is the same as the output. you need a Monitor that can handle such Frequencies.

Perhaps I am wrong on this. I own a different adapter that output the native signal.

Not 15Khz but scan doubled VGA in these modes;
720x400@70Hz (MDA/Hercules)
720x480@60Hz (CGA/EGA Lo)
640x350@70Hz (EGA Hi)

According to the manual for the TV it doesn't support these modes. I think by the time this TV was released most computers converted scan doubled VGA to 640x480@60Hz.

The modes it outputs are still pretty old by modern standards, all PC monitors with VGA would support them. Data projectors would as well. But TVs is going to be a mixed bag.
