Hi there,
I plopped in a SL5QW (iirc), P3-1,1GHz with 100MHz FSB onto my trusty (ha, first use here after dumpsterdiving it) Abit BH6 v1.1.
The bios is the most recent (?) SP-version.
However, when setting the settings manually for 11x100, I still get "CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck CPU soft menu".
Is it so, that Abit never released a bios new enough to support these CPU's?

That error is indicative of the CPU not being stable at the required frequency, not an incompatibility/CPU microcode problem.

Will it post at 66x11?

abit boards of the era are notorious for bad capacitors. Do they all look OK?

The caps seem ok. Which surprised me.
I will check the make of them later today

Based on appearance, or based on ESR measurement?
I saw a video where the authors considered 0.4 ohms to be OK.
Although according to the datasheet, this capacitor should have 40 mOhm, i.e. 10 times less.

Do you have the "Speed Error Hold" set to disabled in the soft menu?

In such cases i just patch BIOS with BIOS Patcher v. 4+

ha!
yes they "looked" fine, but on closer inspection: TAYEH and JACKCON.
Off they went, replaced with quality caps.
Speed Error Hold disabled also worked.
I do not (for some reason) have the tools to check ESR state of caps.
Haven't had time to test it now though, got sidetracked on another project.

If I got 1 euro every time someone told me that the capacitors looked fine, I would have already bought myself a Voodoo 3. 😀
