My DVD Rom (Toshiba SD-L802B in my Clevo M57RU/ Rock Xtreme 770 laptop) has disappeared from device manager and from my computer in Windows XP. So I can’t launch games requiring DVD/CD.

It shows up fine in the bios and it is booting from the boot menu - ie bart pe or windows xp setup so I know it’s working.

I tried all of the recommendations online - check for upper and lower filters in reg edit for CDROM, etc.

My thoughts were that it was a stubborn XP issue however I installed my old sata spinning disk hard drive with Win 7 on it and that didn’t detect the DVD Rom either.

Which makes me think it has to be hardware related (though why would it work fine as a boot device??)

It detects an external usb drive but I’d rather return the internal dvd Rom functionality

Thanks but I’d already tried all of those recommendations- no luck at all. I can’t help think there must be something hardware wise the OS doesn’t like as it doesn’t even show under device manager. And it’s the same under safe mode too, and a different OS on a spare HD. Yet shows up in the bios and can boot from it. Odd.
