Howdy,

Managed to install the Gotek and ran AWD95 to backup the current BIOS; here I attached the BIOS along with some screenshots of the backup process.

Downloaded the latest one from the RetroWeb website, but first let me know if I should proceed with this latest BIOS version, as you suggested.

Regards.

Thanks for the BIOS backup from your J-571B board. This is a correct backup file of your D01 04-22-1998 BIOS and I will send it to TRW.

I’ve compared your D01 BIOS with the E01 version from TRW, and these BIOSes are fully compatible. So you can now upgrade the BIOS to the E01 09-26-1998 version from TRW.
Put both AWDFLASH.EXE and 571B-E01.BIN on the Gotek and use this command to flash the BIOS:

AWDFLASH 571B-E01.bin /Py /Sn /CP /CD /CC

The /C command switches clear the PnP, DMI, and CMOS data from the old BIOS, so it doesn’t interfere with the data for the new BIOS.
Do let us know how this BIOS upgrade worked out.

Happy New Year!
Jan

Hi Jan,

Thanks for viewing and confirming the BIOS.
I have executed the BIOS update successfully.

At first it did not execute since I chose first option of MS-DOS Starter pack by Phil's lab due to Emm386 or Qemm error. Then chose the 9th option and executed successfully.

Later on will tinker again with BIOS settings.

Much appreciated, and happy new year!

Update: The CT4500 had extremely low SFX issue and hence changed to the AWE64 Gold CT4390. Also swapped the CPU heatsink and fan due to being noisy.

The AOC 7 VLR CRT unfortunately gave up the ghost and for the time being am using the Fujitsu B17-1 monitor.

I had a SB32 with the same problem once and it was just matter of replacing one of the quad op-amps. Could also be something easy like that in your case.

Update :

Got hold of the AWE64 Gold CT4390, but after 1 day of functioning well, left channel now is muted completely... Can't find any schematics online 😒

In the meantime got hold of this ESS 1688F model.

Can't seem to find much about this card either, I meant all online images differ from what I have.

Had a CRT AOC 7 VLR 17"which died as well..
Now have replaced by the Horizon? GD-4148S

Got Creative optical drive sticking CDs inside...

Argggh am encountering too many interrupts whilst doing this build 😂

So, just a typical day messing with old computers 😅

That AWE64 looks like it was stored in a damp basement for 30 years though, so it's surprising it even worked.
