Hello,

I would like to install the ESS 1688F from Pine Technologies PT-201 from scratch.

This is a non plug and play card and got far using drivers from DOS days link and also card got detected using the unisound driver.

All I can find is tutorials for the 1869 model.

I have run install.exe, drivers obtained from DOS days link

https://dosdays.co.uk/topics/Manufacturers/ess.php

Jumper jp3 was set to IRQ7 and changed to IRQ5.

https://theretroweb.com/expansioncard/documen … ation/53396.pdf if this the correct one am not sure, also found this

https://stason.org/TULARC/pc/sound-cards-mult … BSOUND-503.html

Got some games working such as Jazz Jack rabbit, epic Pinball, Doofus, OMF.

For the above, I had to choose Sound blaster clone for clean clear sound.

But, for some reason cannot get the game super street fighter 2 turbo to work, no matter what I chose.

Hence removed all related entries from config.sys and auto exec.bat to install it from scratch.

I am using MS-DOS 6.22 and also installed Phil's ms-dos starter pack.

Please note that I come from the Amiga world.

TIA

If you get sound on multiple games, your problem isn't with the card but with the specific game.

Try some of these:
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo DOS no sound
Super Street Fighter II Turbo: Getting sound to work + Getting USB gamepads to work in pure DOS
Street Fighter 2 Original Dos no Sound
- it appears to be rather problematic...

True to that.

I forgot to mention that I'm using the original CD for SSF2T, v1.0 and know that there exist patches for it upto v1.5

I have sound when I had the Creative AWE64 gold attached. Guess, somehow I need to try and install both audio cards..

all of the previous games you listed use sound blaster for digital and FM for music. Ive never run SSF2 but it might be that your running midi music which on your card is going nowhere with a waveblaster board or a midi module connected to the uart.
if you were running aweutil for midi emulation or builtin awe music that would explain the awe 64 working at least for music.
It also sound like the CD has tracks on it as well, is the drive light on during game play? If it was then you would need to look at the analog cable from the drive to the card. Check the mixer that the cdrom isnt off or muted.
you should look at the third link from dionb appears there are some manual hacks to make the game sound driver use the right resources but it should it mainly apply to digitial sound.

Thanks for your replies.

Managed to get the game SSF2T flawlessly.. The issue was the analog audio cable was connected on the Panasonic port, changed to Mitsumi one and all good! Ironically the CD-ROM brand is Matsushita / Matshita which I have assumed it was brought by Panasonic hence why I used the Panasonic port.

Drivers were found on DOS days website, will link accordingly.
