So I recently migrated from Windows to Linux Mint and for watever reason 86Box has been giving me the most trouble out of all my emulators. I just keep getting occasional random temporary freezes and I its driving me up the wall.

Check the version you are running Mint might have served you up an ancient dud.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I'm using the latest AppImage version of 86Box.

As for Linux itself, I installed Mint 22.3.

I've been running 86Box on both PopOS and Kubuntu for months with no issues, so it could have something to do with Linux Mint specifically.

I noticed on their 22.3 release notes, they note that 22.3 ships with Kernel 6.14 which does have issues with Virtualbox. While that's not 86Box, perhaps it's a shared virtualisation/emulation issue.

For reference, on Kubuntu, I'm currently running Kernel 6.8.0-90 which has no issues with 86Box or Virtualbox.

They do say in their release notes that if you're affected by issues, try installing Mint 22.1 which ships with the 6.8 Kernel. Perhaps that could solve your problem?

Switching kernels seems to have done the job, thank you for the advice.

Awesome! You're welcome, glad it's sorted out. 86Box is addictive, hope you have fun with it!
