I'm contemplating what to do with your uploads. See, I currently have no personal interest in these CDs, but I always find it sad if information that can be of use to others goes missing. Since I'm currently short on time (that's not always the case), I though the easiest thing to do is to put these files into a torrent, because then others can take over eventually.
I consider mainboard CD's somewhat important even if it doesn't look that way on first sight. I have some older hardware that I wasn't able to use because the drivers where nowhere to be found (I think eventually found them but it took an incredible amount of research). I figure preserving these CDs is also a way of keeping old hardware in working condition.
I can try to continue to do that, but I feel that's not gonna work in the long term because life seems to get into the way of every long-term project I start. At the same time I have an unreasonable amount of storage available. If you're interested I can set up something that mirrors your data to there and every now and then I can take the time to upload that to The Internet Archive.
Anything you can do to help Gordon..
much apreciated.
Like you I have been in that situation with old hardware and missing data/drivers.
I am more of a floppy disk archivist...but disc data often gets ignored until it's too late.
for example I recently tried to archive a dell cd from a few years back...and even though the disc looked fine..no scratches and had been in a paper sleeve for many years ...I got CRC errors.
Disc data layers DO degrade over time.
As you rightly point out.
Such discs may not be important to me...until they ARE...Winworld and archive .org are very important and many floppies have been preserved..
CDs and DVDs tend to get overlooked..but also need some love.
...and of course need much more storage space.
There cant be too many more for me to archive from this latest batch...so will keep going a short while longer..
Until ..the next time that is 😉
The latest batch uploaded filled my free dropbox allocation...but will leave them be for a few days.
Eventually I have to empty dropbox for more uploads sadly.
I dont however dump the zip files I make.
They are safe for now...but inaccessible to others.
Anything I do upload can be uploaded again on request...but not until I have completed this batch.
best regards

This next motherboard disc is large..
in fact the iso was 7.8gbs.... dual layer dvd ?
luckilly it compressed down to under 4gb..which is still too large for dropbox (2gb limit)
So trying out FEX.NET ..free storage but if I understand correctly ...limited storage time about 6 days maybe ?
I hope this works.
any feedback on this would be appreciated.

PD disks I suspect these floppies will be quite rare.
PD drives are indeed very retro.
