For those having problems installing a good working NVIDIA driver version within Windows 95/98 using a AGP (EVGA) NVIDIA Geforce 6200 graphics/video card, first installing the latest released NVIDIA 81.98 driver seems to have forced 640x480 only resolution, including forcing 640x480 resolution if installing subsequent lesser NVIDIA 77.72 driver versions. On Intel 440BX here, NVIDIA driver version 81.98 does not support APM auto power-off, and likely required reducing acceleration. (eg. Display Properties > Advanced > Performance > Acceleration)

To fix, I reverted to the first known two initial/introduced supported Geforce 6200 nVidia drivers, NVIDIA 66.94 and NVIDIA 71.84 driver versions first began introducing Geforce 6200 PCI Vendor/Device IDs not supporting EVGA devices, with manually editing/adding EVGA PCI Vendor/Device IDs to the driver's configuration (*.ini) files. Once I installed/tried both driver versions (I was only able to get driver 71.84 version installed with my EVGA Geforce 6200 PCI card) all board supported resolutions became available and APM machine auto power-off now worked. Subsequently upgrading to NVIDIA 77.72 version, prior release to 81.98 version, and still having similar stability in comparison to 71.84 driver version.

Drivers 66.94 & 71.84 did not include EVGA NVIDIA Geforce 6200 (512-A8-N405-KR) PCI Vendor/Device IDs, and require manually adding to the driver (*.ini) configuration files.

Two configuration lines within two sections of the configuration file:
--- begin of snip ---
%NVIDIA&DEV_0221.DeviceDesc% = NV30, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0221
--- end of snip ---

--- begin of snip ---
NVIDIA&DEV_0221.DeviceDesc="NVIDIA GeForce 6200"
--- end of snip ---

During power-off/shutdown, the display will appear to hang for ~30-60 seconds with "press any key" message, do not press any keys and the machine will eventually self power-off; if BIOS APM is turned on and the driver version is <= 77.72 driver version. If using driver 81.98 version, an additional "Windows Protection Fault" message will be printed above the "press any key" message and after 30-60 seconds, "It's now safe to turn off your computer." requiring a manual machine power-off.

In brief, if you have a (EVGA) NVIDIA Geforce 6200 AGP, only install NVIDIA 71.84 driver version with a configuration (*.ini) having edited/added PCI Vendor/Device IDs; or NVIDIA 77.72 driver version. Installing the latest 81.98 will break APM auto machine power-off and likely restrict or break PCI card supported video resolutions and refresh rates.

The above was using Windows 98SE APM (on a Tyan 440BX motherb0ard), and just installed ACPI into Windows 98SE. Subsequently tested/upgraded from a working NVIDIA 77.72 driver version to 81.98 NVIDIA driver version, and as prior with APM, the 81.98 NVIDIA driver gave black/hang screens. Reverting to NVIDIA 77.72 driver version again continued with similar problems, including setting to reduced performance, cause of problem as if a 81.98 versioned file was left behind and 77.72 was not resetting or deleting/cleaning. Downgraded to NVIDIA 71.84 driver version and everything just works fine with all resolutions. Dealt with initially decades ago, still recalling the hair loss.

Regardless of knowing NVIDIA 77.72 does work, I'm just sticking with NVIDIA 71.84 driver version hopefully avoiding any problems. For my agenda installing 77.72 initially, when I reinstall Windows 98SE forcing ACPI. (eg. setup.exe /pj switch)

Due to the significant stability issues, I'll try following-up with posting a simple diff/patch file of the configuration file (eg. NVIDIA *.ini) along with trying to post the complete configuration file due to Windows users not having ready access to diff/patch.
