Before I drive myself insane repeatedly bashing my head into the wall simply titled: "You do not have enough memory to run Betrayal at Krondor"

I just wanted to confirm... can this game actually be ran under later DOS iterations bundled with windows or does it require a true DOS 6.22 or earlier enviroment? I know there are a handful of such titles that are either nearly impossible or outright impossible to run under the more bloated DOS enviroments shipped with Windows 9x.

I've tried BaK on 3 different PCs, each using different combinations of XMS/EMS and mouse/sound drivers. I just keep getting this same error over and over, even on very minimal configurations (like just EMS/XMS with no mouse or sound drivers loaded)

604,160 bytes free, that is a tough target, if you aren't already going this way, you might need a reboot to DOS rather than a resumeable DOS mode, as there is more overhead in the resumeable. That is, configs set in the PIF, rather than by editing the main ones.
Seems it runs ok in DOSBOX, though that may not be appropriate for 9x

If you attempt to tune the existing config, you can drop to dos and exit back to Windows, but overheads are higher. Specify a new MSDOS configuration causes a reboot to DOS, and a reboot back to Windows, slower, but more powerful in getting a tighter setup
