this is network compatible with 3369, so same kind of deal as with the ut99 patch. to install the client, out of the gate anything older than win7 and anything 32-bit is out, on a game that supports even 98se out of the box... it's also not hard to see the requirement moving to win10 if this will still be worked on in a couple of years. no doubt 3369 has some issues, and their ut99 patch removing the 100 FPS cap was a big deal, but IMO as with any of these patches it's only a matter of time until they will start fiddling with gameplay parameters, and/or feature creep sets in.

the game is offered for free as well, link to the installer: https://www.oldunreal.com/downloads/ut2004/fu … ame-installers/

Windows 7+ and 64-bit CPUs only is a reasonable sacrifice.

one question is about legacy mod support, because antitcc already doesn't work and requires a new version for this. so it might break a number of old mods that will also never be updated.

the other thing is hardware audio/eax, where i'm about 100% certain all of that will be ripped out in time and replaced with openal soft or something (it's already essentially broken in the stock 64-bit game).

I guess I'll find out if I try to join a server running this because I'm not interested in trying to install this when I already have the last official release of the Linux port installed and working.

EAX is proprietary to Creative's Open AL, so don't expect miracles. Granted, I've been using Open AL Soft with the last official version of the Linux port and it handles things like dynamically changing audio pitch and attenuation but none of the actual environmental effects are implemented.

on ut99 you can stay on 436, join servers running the new patch and have the game running above 100 FPS. so it'll work fine here too, you just wont get any of the clientside only changes. for instance they have a new renderer and are doing some kind of new mirror effects now that i guess require installation of this patch.

that's a linux issue, on windows reverb actually works at least to some extent even on onboard audio with EAX3.0EMULATED/EAX4.0EMULATED caps present. again, 32-bit only, this is broken in the 64-bit .exe and the audio option won't say hardware audio EAX but just openal instead. it's why i'm curious if this might be broken already with the new patch, because it's 64-bit only now.

it's quite ironic by the way because an x-fi won't work with the stock game and require creative's patch with all the junk added to it to even get hardware audio working with the game at all.
