I recently purchased an Alienware 27" 1440p 180Hz G-Sync/FreeSync monitor and I noticed that unless I set my monitor to the highest refresh rate in Windows, VRR (G-Sync) will not be automatically detected and DOSBOX Staging will default to SDI mode upon initialization when starting a DOS game through DOS BOX Staging. When I exit the fullscreen mode of DOSBOX Staging and read the logging in the DOSBOX window it says that it was auto detected as SDI at a 120Hz refresh rate, the refresh rate I set my monitor to in the Nvidia Control Panel. Now if I set my monitor to 180Hz, it will be detected as a VRR for the host rate and subtract 3 Hz so 177 Hz as a result. This is on the DP 1.4 connection. One the HDMI 2.1 connection, same issue, 120Hz detected as SDI for host rate but at 144Hz, the highest refresh rate supported by this monitor through HDMI, the host rate will automatically be detected as a VRR monitor and subtract 3Hz resulting at 141Hz.
