I recently got a HIDman and am using it in a setup with an ATEN CS1784A (DVI + USB KVM). It wasn’t entirely straightforward to make it work (beacuse of the KVM I guess), so here’s what worked for me in case it helps someone using a similar KVM switch (HIDman firmware 1.1.6):
First, I connected everything without changing anything. It didn’t work. I then tried an older, simpler USB keyboard, still no luck.
The KVM has an emulation layer for keyboard and mouse when they are connected to the dedicated console ports (to support hotkeys for switching between machines). In addition, it has two “regular” USB ports. I tried connecting only the keyboard to one of the regular USB ports on the KVM (not the dedicated keyboard port). Suddenly, the keyboard worked. However, as soon as I plugged the mouse into the second regular USB port, neither the mouse nor keyboard worked again.
There is a BIOS option on the Pentium system under boot settings, Turbo or Deturbo for the boot process. It was set to Turbo. After switching it to Deturbo, both keyboard and mouse started working reliably through the KVM. POST and boot now take longer, but this seems to give HIDman enough time to initialize properly.
Now I tried the modern keyboard again, a Ducky One 3, but changed the setting in HIDman to advanced keyboard. This time it worked together with the mouse when connected directly into HIDman, but only keyboard worked when connected through the KVM.
I also tested firmware v1.1.7beta1, because of its improved hub support, but that made the setup not work anymore (also for the older keyboard together with the mouse that had worked before). Reverting back to 1.1.6 restored the previous working state for the old keyboard + mouse.
Any suggestions for getting the Ducky keyboard + mouse combination to work with HIDman through the KVM? Combination older usb keyboard + same mouse works..
