I think I tried both drivers (for the two diff cards) but maybe not…,i downloaded drivers from rtw for fasttrak and will try later today. Will also check the promise website thanks.

Ok so i flashed the bios ok , the drive is detected and i can setup stripe array which shows on boot.
But, dos doesnt see the drive when booting using win98 disk. Fdisk doesnt show option to select hdd. It shows drive 1 but thats a separate IDE drive connected to onboard IDE port.
What to do now?

just checking in again, hoping someone can shed some light on this situation!
FDISK says current fixed disk drive: 1, which seems to indicate it can see at least 1 fied disk in the system - Does it error out when you try to list partitions or create a partition?

Thanks but re read my post above, the disk 1 is the cf card connected to onboard ide connector. It should be showing two drives.
Everything I can read about the FastTrak66 is that it doesn't need any drivers for DOS and there aren't any available, so I'm not sure what is happening except for some kind of compatibility issue between the card bios and the motherboard bios
The only other thing I can think of is to boot from a floppy/cd with the fasttrak the only storage device in the system (it may not like mixing motherboard IDE and RAID disks for fixed disks) and see if fdisk works that way

I disabled both onboard IDE channels in BIOS but still no go. I have two of these cards so if one was faulty, at least the other one should work but ... no luck.
I will try it in another Pentium 1 machine to confirm its no BIOS related (which I btw updated to latest one on the motherboard I mean).

Perhaps you're see some unexpected conflict between the FT66 and whatever M.2 adapter you're using (I did read that right didn't I; you're using a 64GB M.2 SATA SSD as the sole array member). Have you tried creating a single drive array with a standard spinning hdd to see if the results are the same?
sorry I should have said, I tried also a mechanical HDD , it gets detected by Ultra 66 and I setup stripe array and same issue, its not seen by FDISK. (win98 version which has large hdd support).

There's nothing in the old FT66 faq or troubleshooting pages which resembles this issue, so perhaps a quirk of the motherboard...which one are you using atm, and more general info on system hw / setup might help.
Ok update, I am making progress.
I noticed that despite setting up the array, on boot the fasttrak controller gives this strange error, it only shows for a aplit second so i missed it:

When i turn off the pc and back on it shows the drive/array and fdisk can see it.

It appears its always like this post array creation or soft and hard reset. I have to turn off the pc if i need to reset.
Board is this:

Interesting - I would continue to check if that behaviour happens on another motherboard. If it does there may be a faulty component on the board EG a bad capacitor. I saw this error mentioned online in relation to converting an Ultra66 card to a FastTrak66 card if the person used the wrong resistors. So bad components could also cause the same message.

The 430FX chipset isn't PCI 2.1 spec is it (from the FastTrak66 FAQ)...
Q11: What are the motherboard requirements for the FastTrak66?
A: Is your motherboard, at least, PCI 2.1 compliant? The FastTrak66 may not work properly, if at all, on a motherboard that is less than PCI 2.1 compliant. You can get this information from motherboard specifications or the manufacturer of the computer.
Other requirements would be a PnP BIOS on your motherboard and that your motherboard supports bus mastering. The FastTrak66 will not work in your computer if either one of these requirements are not met.
