It was not until recently that I've discovered that setupds.exe only works in V86 Mode (with emm386.exe loaded), while completely locking up the system in the Real Mode.

It's worth mentioning that I'm a happy owner of a Pentium 3 box with 768 MB of RAM, and it turned out dos4gw.exe (the DOS extender setupds.exe is relying upon) is not as happy as I am, potentially having problems with that much memory.

So I took DOS/32A distribution and created 4 different versions of driver binaries (attached). The same binaries are also available from this GitHub repository: 0x6675636b796f75676974687562/dsxgdos.

Any feedback is welcome. Please let me know if I should have updated this thread instead of creating a separate post.
