Whilst I've been working on the HDD Synth it got me thinking about other related areas that could be fun to play with, so last night I put together a quick and dirty proof of concept.
YouTube - Keyboard Synth first look
I'm taking a feed off the PS/2 cable between the keyboard and the PC then using the Pico to read the signal and determine when a key has been pressed or released. When one of these events is detected it plays back a random key down/up sound.
The finished product would allow for different sample packs to be used, so you could choose which keyboard you'd like to have yours sound like.
I'm going to experiment using a transducer attached to the keyboard, instead of a speaker, to see if that sounds and feels better
Perhaps a limited market for this one, but it's fun to play around with 😀
I'll continue to focus on getting the HDD Synth completed before I spend any real time on this one
- HDD Synth - Recreates the sound of mechanical spinning HDD
- GameMinder - DOS games launcher
