Agree with the sentiments wrt replacing a working piece of software with an enshitified newer version.

If codec is the issue, winamp supports decoder plugins. If your codec is open source (ish) it might not be too difficult to address the problem.

Stability is a possible reason, as I've seen WinAmp (WACUP included) crash a few times on some streamers I watch, so it probably doesn't play too well with OBS

Old BSPlayer 0.86 should work in Win95 up to Win11. For this old BSPlayer 0.86 there are skins that can be hidden to taskbar while video playback works and there are better looking skins than original ones.
I mainly use it with Win9x and video with ffdshow. I dont know how it plays audio, but it should do it if codecs are installed. Many skins are for 1.0 or newer, but if you look, you can find suitable skins for you.
