Like the title says, is it possible to prevent "My Computer" from scanning all optical drives for their icons and volume names?
Like, if you have a Command & Conquer 95 CD2 inserted, it shows something like a scorpion tail emblem and the name of the disc.
But want it to just show "Drive D:" or something like that instead, because I have a CD changer that Windows believes to be 5 different CD drives, D, E, F, G and H. So every damn time I open up "My Computer", it will list all the other drives, then proceed to load every disc in the changer (even the empty slots) to the top where they can be read, then load their symbol and name, and only after all 5 slots have been physically checked for a disc and read if one was found, will the damn explorer become responsive again.
This is not about something being slow or hanging.
This behavior is intended by Windows because nobody foresaw a goddamn CD changer and it doesn't take more than a second or two to read this info from a single CD drive. But if afterwards a motor has to present the next disc for reading, and repeat that 4 times, it becomes fucking annoying.
