Dear all,
I was wondering which version of WinAMP was considered the best (light-waight, no bloatware , Ads free, etc.) by fans and users back in the day.

Based on my research the overall votes go to either version 2.95 or 5.666.

Your thoughts, insights are greatly appreciated!

If you kindly provide download links it would be appreciated!

Agree on 2.9. Snappy and doesn't add stupid features no one needs.

I like the 'Modern Skin' by Sven Kistner (in particular) so I went with v5.666, as I couldn't get it to work on v2.9

The latest version of Winamp 2.xx is considered to be 2.95, but it has never been officially released.
This creates confusion: on various sites under version 2.95, you can find the original Nullsoft's 2.95RC version or from third parties.

Hi, @C0deHunter,
If you like the modern skin option, the latest build of Winamp non-beta version 5.666 is build 3516 from December 2013. It's newer than builds with beta version 5.7.You can download it here or here. I also found a later patched v. 5.666 build 3516 from 2014, but I will not post it here, as it's non-official.

Seems like the newest win XP-compatible version is 5.8 build 3660 from the late 2018, but I never tried it, because after the Winamp was killed by aol in 2013, I started using foobar2000 with win XP instead of Winamp.
