No thanks, you can keep your big brother is watching yet another subscription dystopian cloud computing.

People used to freak out about the government putting an electronic chip in their brains, but I can tell you from spending several days amidst the common man that people are ardently in favour of private entities sticking electronic chips in their palms. The future is Silicon Valley meets East Germany.

Modern kids are stupid, hell most people born since 2000 leave a lot to be desired regarding gullibility and allowing stupid shit to go unchecked.

However Gex X is still managing to keep the world spinning, and stupid shit wont fly around us.

This, of course, only helps to speed up the “age”/ identity verification agenda.

It was never about the children.

Yes. That's why I called it 'worm-tonguing'.

It's a reference to a fictional character who uses whispers and court intrigue to effectively usurp and control a fictional kingdom.

The implication was that private computing abd communication would be the only things that *are actually somewhat safe* for children, when *people like that* are deciding policies.

Thank you for explaining the cultural reference.

I agree with you.

I am a strong supporter of decentralization and individual agency. The absence of agency / being dangerous does not make you virtuous, instead, it makes you useless.

Dangerous people create peaceful lives.

Ram prices likely to go up trough 2026.

Also , ALL computer components that require a CHIP (all of them) will be even more expensive now.

The chip manufacturing process require helium , it acounts for about 25% of helium used worldwide. Now , with the war in Iran , and petrol shortage , there will be a lot less helium , therefore will be an increase in chips besides normal.

The days of affordable CPUs , GPUs and ram are long gone. Even motherboards have silly prices now...

Expect the worst!

So, regarding some of the previous comments, cloud computing is the future and you'll all be replaced with AI. Submit or be destroyed!

I think the helium issue are more about recent ICs that are still being manufactured. So new chips will cost more to produce.

I don't think CPUs/GPUs of dated, no longer manufactured generations will change too much because of this, and will only become expensive as usable units in good conditions on the market become fewer and thus rarer.

Offcourse , it will affect new computer parts.

It s a lot more than helium though.

Petrol price affects all ways of life. Basically , there is not 1 aspect of modern life that does not run on petrol. In addition to the helium thing , you need to factor in transport from Asia to Europe or USA.

I would say , starting middle of april we will see a further rise in computer components. At least 10 20%.

When new equipment gets too expensive people hold on to their older gear making that more expensive to find. When DDR5 went up 3x you seen used and new DDR4 do the same. It's like when nobody can buy a new car and they wonder why old car prices are going up, people need to drive something.

I reject their reality and replace it with one of my own.

Also pretty hard to enslave someone who simply removes all tech from their life and goes and lives as a hermit in the mountains.

Many governments have moved to the "We can't let you do that. It's for your own safety that you must return to the warm embrace of our organized society and technological dependency." side of things.

Whoof. Tell me about it. I have been actively seeking the exit TrashBytes mentioned for a number of years now, and I am finally very close to success.
About the only places where you can successfully pull it off, are places where total human presence is so low that its not logistically possible for them to nannystate you back into the fold using men with guns. They cant collect enough taxes there to pay the men with guns, so they just dont try. 😁

It'll be a few years yet before I can move though.

We need disparate points of view to make sure that there is always open discussion. I'd like to see a return to a world where we recognize how much we have in common and stop dwelling on extremes. Our modern infrastructure and tech allow for amplification of mistrust designed to alienate and, once divided, it's far easier to perpetuate hatred and far more difficult to reconcile.

We need to use that same tech that can be used to divide us to find common ground, it will take a conscious effort by everyone to do so. Focus on what brings us together, it might not feel pleasant all the time but it's the best hope for the future.

Ram prices will come down.

Well I'm no Christopher Thomas Knight. What am I supposed to do out there anyway?

World would be better if this one stupid country with its psycho president didn't stuck its nose into everything.

Correct.... many of us are not slaves. We simply say no and have the means\experience to reject it.

Anyway.... all things are cyclical....
Unless the AI overlords come, prices will come down.
Unless the New World Order (left or right considering your viewpoint) solidifies its grip, the free market will want its money.
(Purposely staying away from politics... as this is such a nice place to post... 🤣)

The market abhors a vacuum.
If there is money to be gained, someone with the assets will come in and fill the hole.
Helium be damned...
