I have decided to build a super socket 7 system for my collection and acquired this motherboard:

FIC VA-503+

https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/8482

Im running AMD k6-2 550 cpu, 256mb sd ram with windows 98 and everything is working well but…

My 3dmark99 score is very low. Im getting around 2600-2800 score with Voodoo3 and TNT2 Pro and GF4 MX440.

Is this normal and all I can get out of this board?

My systems with celeron 400 or p2 400 with cards like voodoo2 get same or higher score. So I find it puzzling as the 3dmark cpu score is higher, almost 65% so it has to be the gpu.

I have tried various drivers, I have the latest via chipset drivers installed , same for gpus.

Would love any thoughts on this so I can understand whether this is all I can get out of this platform or there is something wrong.

Yes, this sounds about right for K6-2 550 (and Celeron 400/P2 400 too for that matter). You can check my tests here - 3DMark 99 is also there and all these CPUs were tested with Voodoo3. https://hw-museum.cz/article/5/cpu-history-to … 1995---1999-/12

3DMark 99 is extremely CPU limited. Voodoo3 2000 gets about 6000 points on fast CPU. GF4 MX could be over 10000 points easily.

Oh ok, I thought it would do better. I’ll use the V3 in a faster machine.

I think a TNT2 Pro should be a good match then for this config.

TNT2 Pro (if it is proper 128-bit version) is similar to Voodoo3 performance wise. But you can use it for socket 7 PC, it is good match.
