Hi I'm hoping someone can help who has a Creative HEX Speed CD ROM CD620E (or similar). Creative's 8x speed and other early models are probably much the same.
It's just the same as this one on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mIqCFY_jfc

Anyway, I was repairing this drive (which has gone fine) and a small white plastic piece has fallen out when I turned it upside down (I have placed it on the metal CD clip in the picture). It's not broken, but frustratingly I'm unable to replace it and orientate it correctly as I'm not sure where it goes.
I think it activates the small white microswitch when the drawer is closed. I have highlighted this switch and I think it goes in this region, but I can't be sure.
I cannot find any pictures or guides that might help me out, but once I know I should be able to slot it straight back in.

If anyone is happy to open their drive and take pictures of this component in it's correct place this would be much appreciated. Btw you would have to remove the drawer to see this view which is easy to do just by flexing in the retaining clips on the black plastic frame. Avoid turning the unit upside down once the drawer is removed!

Many thanks in advance for your help.

That would be fantastic. It's so annoying as it has just slipped out from somewhere and I have no idea where.
Take care handling you own unit, but if your not messing with it like I was you should be OK.
Btw. I was fixing the corner screw post (visible in pic) and was just re-assembling when this bit fell out.
-Likewise I can't find any internal photos for the CR-583-J
Many thanks

I think I can see your unknown part at 1:11 in that video, in the upper right which is the underside of the tray mechanism.
From the text in your picture I can tell it's reversed horizontally and when your image is flipped the shape does pretty much match up.

Hope you can get the drive working again, mostly I find that re-seating and cleaning oxidation on flex cables makes the biggest difference 😀
Beyond that make sure the motor spins freely and spin it a few times by hand to clean the brushes /commutator if it's a regular DC motor. Make sure the sled and sled motor are moving freely - the Toshiba 2x and 4x laptop drives are especially bad for grease going hard in the sled motor which completely breaks drive functionality til that's freed up.
