Hello. Has there been any news about the project?
Hello. Has there been any news about the project?
A bored Google search brought me to this fascinating thread. I was an avid AST user for a few years. I recompiled the source to add a feature: randomly choose values for chorus reverb parameters. AST was pretty stable for me with careful use..
I have fantasized about getting a USB ISA adapter to get my newly sourced AWE64 gold working without the need for another computer in my life. It sounds like that is a unknown path (judging by this thread) and I expect it would be an unsuccessful, expensive folly. My mate recently got a vintage EMU sampler 'cause he loves the sound... I guess AST would be a cheaper and more conveniently programmable option.
In practice, when I feel like playing with beats I find Bespoken synth makes the growling lfo filtered bass that AST gave me hours of pleasure with >20 years ago, possible today.
I had a couple of hours spare and looked into 86box. 86box claims to have AWE card support - and indeed I managed to get a virtual AWE32 working and could play some of my old AST tunes. However, they didn't sound quite right... and interacting with AST was a bit hit-and-miss (I couldn't get my mouse cursor to click the button to save a song to HD on AST130, 160, 162f for example).
But: it certainly qualified as some old school nostalgia without fiddling with real hardware!

Have you thought about open source All Sound Tracker?
There was some bugs. Maybe users fix it? 😀
Now there are communities of downgraders who use DOS and other similar software.
Perhaps people from this communities will be able to support the project (in github at least, at the "accept pull request" level).I think Feilei had put the sources on private website. But as I see, it is offline now. I will take care of it, needs a bit more time to compile all my AST stuff.
AST was coded in Turbo Pascal 7.01, this might become a challenge, if you have no physical hardware below 200MHz. Yes, there are a lot of bugs. But I remember musicians using these bugs as feature, e.g. some weird LFO overflow. When I fixed the overflow, I got complaints some music wouldn't sound as intended any longer, haha!best reggies, jamram
TP 7 ? This is not a problem for me 😀
I use AST "as is" now.
If you may open sources, i have a idea to make MIDI-controlled sampler based on it.
P.S. There is my track, made on AST with TB-303 clone, mixed live.
