Hey everyone

I have a Diamond Monster 3D that I've been running in my vintage Win 98SE PC for the longest time, and I want to try out an Orchid Righteous 3D for fun.

What's the best way to make sure that the switch is clean? Will I need to go through a detailed driver clean process to remove all Diamond Monster 3D stuff before putting in the Orchid Righteous 3D....and if yes what would that process be like?

This might be a fairly common question but I couldn't find a standard tried and tested answer from my search in the forums. Maybe I missed it!

Thanks

Never done it with a Voodoo 1 but with a Voodoo 2 you can just swap them and Windows will just reinstall the existing drivers. Didn't have to remove/install the drivers again.

That usually works fine with 3dfx drivers. But there might be some issues with the custom setup from Diamond. Especially if you want to use drivers released by Orchid.

Visit my AmiBay items for sale (updated: 2026-03-23). I also take requests 😉

I see! Not sure whether it makes a difference, I haven't installed drivers for the Orchid before.

I just want to lightly test the Orchid for functionality (I got one somewhat recently and want to see it work and do the clicky sound), so if I can actually use the existing Diamond drivers on the Orchid that would be great 🤣. It's been over a decade since I changed any hardware driver thing in my Win 98SE machine that I'm worried that by doing Diamond -> Orchid for funsies it makes Windows corrupt its config or something that causes me headache!
