I'm probably just going to brute force install DOS and Win98SE at this point. We're dealing with 30 year old systems and OSes, and I miss the modern conveniences associated with modern installation. That and minor hardware compatibility issues is throwing me considering I'm installing to real hardware.

Test it in a vm.
If it works, copy to real drive and see what happens.

Frankly, I'd upload a full iso and hdd image if it would last more than 3 seconds before deletion
