9000, 9500, 9700

2. Wave 2003
9200, 9600, 9800 (you see, basically a "refresh" of every previous variant. The 9600 being a bit cheeky)

3. Wave 2004
9250, 9550

🤣

I have the same card as 9600 Pro DDR2 - it's running 500MHz without any issues, just like yours.. Lovely card. But mine has got an RV360. 😁

I compared it clocked like that to few cards :

The attachment 3DMark 01SE OC.PNG is no longer available

On NV side it's pretty close to 5700 Ultra

Overclocked GF4 Ti 4800 SE :

Usual GeForce 6600 AGP (non-GT) is a bit slower :

I got the card in the mail and i installed the omega drivers and it works great. I also ran Everest home edition to see if it was 128bit memory interface but what's weird is the card is reporting having 256mb instead on 128mb of ram. I'm also interested in flashing the 9600 bios onto it as discussed on this thread if anyone has advice for doing that. I also have a new cooler i ordered from aliexpress for it but its been stuck in the same place for a few days on tracking so it might have gotten lost in the post.

First, find the operating frequencies for your GPU and memory using RivaTuner before flashing anything. Strictly speaking, they can be set to autorun and not flashed, then in order to pass this card on to descendants in its original form, you will literally not have to take any action.

P.S. I'm just now testing one of my R9600s 256 MB with artifacts he he.

As your card is a DDR2 variant, you'd have to find a fitting BIOS of a 9600 for the same memory. I don't think it's worth the hassle. Perhaps you can edit the BIOS using Rabit https://www.techpowerup.com/download/rabit-bios-editor/ and get your clocks higher, or just use the software route under windows.

If you can get us the markings on the memory ICs (they were barely readable on the pictures) we can tell you if it is 128MB or 256MB. I suspect its the latter.

I got 2 radeon 9600xt with 256mb and 128 bit bus from Abit. They come at default clocks: 500mhz for the GPU, 600mhz for the memory. They are good up to 2003 - that means directx 8.1. In directx 9.0 performance is not good at all - i am talking about maximum details only. They are dead silent and run very cool.

Is this a good one?

Oi!
Yes and No.
Yes, because it's probably still a legit 9600 card with 128-bit memory bus.
No, because that appears to be a no-name Chinese fab'ed Radeon 9600 with Sacon FZ ventless electrolytic capacitors - these things should be changed ASAP. They might work OK for a few months to a few years, but after that they are guaranteed to pop randomly on you like little fire crackers (well, that's what happens when you don't put safety vents on parts that can build up pressure.) So just beware of that.
I also don't suggest to flash the BIOS to anything else or OC the RAM. Very likely both the GPU and the RAM are recycled parts, as is often the case with these no-name Chinese cards. The RAM likely is running at its best... or as good as it will get on that board (these cheapo no-name cards are known for cutting components wherever possible, so it's not uncommon to see them do "weird stuff" even if slightly OC'ed.)

Just use it as-is, and perhaps with a very slow fan blowing air over it / nearby. Despite the big passive cooler, it will still get pretty hot.

I was actually able to overclock the ram and gpu to that of a 9600 pro with the stock cooler and paste. i still plan to replace the paste but I ran 2 rounds of 3d mark 2001 and it didn't get that hot to the touch. What programs could I run on xp to stress test this card? I was thinking of using Aida 64 but let me know if there is a better solution.

I don't think you can stress DX9 cards under AIDA64, because they simply don't support OpenCL.
There is old ATI tool bundled with ATI overclocking utility that will stress the card for you (in search of errors).

They were good performers when they released. Back then we still mostly used 1024×768 or 1280×960 resolution CRTs and these are very early (facelift of the first gen) DirectX 9 graphics cards for the mainstream meant for us. And DX9 was in use for a long time while now when we are retro gaming, we think about maxing out in high resolution these old games because they are approaching a quarter of a century in age so they "should" be maxed out in resolutions that are considered standard today. But when you run them on hardware of that era it's unreasonable to expect performance from these mainstream hardware that you got at or above enthusiast level parts from a generation later.
