So I'll put the 4MB expansion on the 8MB Mill2, just to have a 12MB PCI card waiting for an unsuspecting early Pentium.

This way, a nice lot just became an even nicer lot. A 12MB Mill2 is something well above average in my book.

You can check out this thread if you want more info on the various memory configurations for Matrox Millennium 2's: Matrox Millennium II 16MB - exists? If so, why?

Bought this Protech PM286 motherboard with the leaky battery, and DataExpert OPTI-495SLC rev 1.2 in a pristine condition, no corrosion from a battery, no scratches

Very nice! These pink batteries are lithium so they rarely leak, this is why your board is in perfect condition 😉

I found a Mac ATI Rage GL 16MB card, is it possible to flash it to make it work on a PC?

Possibly, though with Mac stuff, you should check first if you can sell it and buy three PC versions with the proceeds.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

The PCI version as found in the B&W G3s?
Take the All-in-wonder 128 bios, run it through Rabit to disable the video capture stuff and change the subsystem id so that the card the card is recognised as a regular rage fury pro and not as an aiw.

You can also flash the AiW bios as-is, but you will have several ! in device manager due to the missing video capture bits.

Yes its the PCI version, it looks like this one https://www.reddit.com/r/VintageApple/comment … anybody_have_a/

although mine has a heatsink on the GPU

Okay thanks guys, I'll try it this weekend. It won't be my main GPU but I can check out some CIF games (although I think the Rage IIc is better with CIF overall).

I bought a DFI brand socket 478 motherboard with ISA slots on ebay today, also a P4 2.8 533FSB processor.

I've wanted another P4 for a while and I specifically went with this board that has no AGP so I wouldn't be tempted to just slam in one of high end Geforce FX series cards I have yet again. This way I'll get some use out of the various PCI video cards I have and some ISA expansion cards too.

Hopefully it doesn't take months to get here, it's coming from Guangzhou, China.

So this stuff arrived today and they ended up sending the version of the board that has a fake AGP slot that only works with the DVI add-on card for the onboard video and the CF-card slot. No big deal to me but neither feature is of use to me, also they included a P4 2.8 with the board along with the seperate CPU I ordered so now I have 2 2.8GHZ P4 processors.

Anyway when I test this stuff out later today I'm going to do some benchmarking with the various PCI cards I have, I'll make a new thread about that later.

Rage128 has no CIF. Rage pro agp/pci , rage pro turbo agp/pci and rage lt pro and rage xl/xc agp cards are better at cif and overall 3 times faster than Rage2.
Rage2 cif has one exclusive game (Actua Soccer), all other cif games are playable with Rage3, also cif demos working with Rage3 and Rage3 has OpenGL 1.1

Oh thats sad then 🤣

Yeah I saw this page and its a little confusing, but good to know that only Actua Soccer isn't playable https://gona.mactar.hu/ATI3DCIF/

So would Rage XL be the "best" card for CIF?

EDIT: Oh I forgot ebay is flooded with these cards, can be had for really cheap, are they clones or just reused chips if I wanted to get an XL?

The chinese cards that are cheap on ebay use reclaimed original chips, I'd imagine they're still quite easy for them to find as Rage XL lived on in the server world well into 2007-8.

The problem is that (to my knowledge) no one has managed to get CIF working properly on RXL PCI. RXL AGP works somewhat, but no dice for the PCI version (they have different PCI IDs hardcoded into the silicon)

Also, as with the late ATI reference Rage XL PCI design, they only have a 32 bit wide memory bus that will handicap their performance severely.
It's not an issue for their intended usage as a dumb framebuffer, where the most exciting thing they'll ever do is a bit of GDI acceleration (if that), but it becomes one when 3D comes into the picture.

You're better off getting some flavour of Rage Pro or Rage LT if you can find them cheap. All in wonder Pro also works (not to be confused with the aiw 128 pro which is a rage 128 pro and won't do CIF)

Alright thanks, shame about the XL PCI because they're so cheap and easy to get.

Also just saw phil tested these, yeah CIF doesn't really work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEfzfkvaNoM

Bought yesterday a "Trust Sound Expert De Luxe Wave 32 3D" sound card, identical to the one I had in my PC from the late 90s.
It seems to be practically new, maybe it's not at the level of an SB32 or SB64, but it has integrated the Wavetable, all in all it was not obvious to have it on an ISA sound card from that period, different if we talk about PCI sound cards, however if you are interested it should arrive in the next few days.

Today I got for free 2 Fujitsu Siemens 22 inch monitors. One is a A22W-3A and the other is a B22W-5.
Any opinions? I gonna use them for my retro PCs.

I have only used Fujitsu Siemens display for office purposes and not gaming, and my experience with them in that regard is that they were basically boringly average, didn't have any real problems with them, but neither were I impressed with their capabilities.

Bought an ATI Radeon 9200 128MB AGP in box. I know it is not a very desirable card, but I'm happy to have it in my collection. Hard to find these older video cards with boxes for a good price. The package with the driver CD and manual is still sealed and from looking at the connector on the card and the VGA connector, this card looks to be new or installed only once.

The Atari PC Catalog highlights a few games: RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, Sid Meier's Pirates, Axis & Allies, Chris Sawyer's Locomotion, Dragonshard, Act of War: Direct Action, Shadow Ops: Red Mercury, Demon Stone, Neverwinter Nights Platinum, Sid Meier's Civilization III Complete. At the end it shows the badges for the Radeon X800 Series, X600 Series, X300 Series.
