I know this is a bit off-topic for pure retrogaming, but I’m guessing some of you here have worked or traveled over there to hunt for gear... since Russia is usually the go-to spot when you're looking for old Soviet machines or ISA cards that are impossible to find in Western Europe. Anyway, that’s where my question is coming from. A buddy of mine is heading to Moscow in about three weeks, mostly to go picking at electronics flea markets (he’s looking for Agat and UKNC systems, for those in the know). He asked me if I knew what the best eSIM card for Russia is in terms of connectivity, because he doesn't want to deal with local carriers or buy a physical SIM at the airport like it's 2005. Personally, I don't have any direct experience with this. I checked out Airalo and a few alternatives, but the reviews aren't super clear regarding the actual coverage once you're inside the country. Some say it works fine, others struggle as soon as they leave the capital. What I'm mainly interested in: has anyone here actually used an eSIM in Russia, and if so, which solution did you go with? Reasonable price, decent speeds for sending photos of gear while digging through the markets, and not too much of a headache to activate from France? Honestly, the whole eSIM thing has me curious for my own future travels too, so even more general feedback on virtual carriers for this type of destination would be great. Anyone with recent experience?

You registered on a gaming related forum to ask about eSIMs for use in Russia? Wat.

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

You get non existent or north korea internet there. 😂 Especially now tha the infamous 9th May is nearing.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.
PS. If I upload RAR, it is a 16-bit DOS RAR Version 2.50.

I have a lot of experience with Russia, including phones because my network counts as "rest of world" and doesnt include it in my 25Gb roaming allowance!

Not sure where youre from so cant help much as to a reseller but Beeline is a good network in Moscow oblast, Ive never had a problem getting a single when I needed one. They do eSIM cards and SIM cards you can buy now use then or buy then.

By the way, it is seeming like a satellite phone is almost as cheap to run as a cellphone was 25 years ago now, so for true everywhere service, that might be worth considering. They're not huge bricks anymore either.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

It might be real...
Dont hold you breath on it though!

It does spark a question for me though, especially as we have an international group here.

Here in the UK the plastic SIM card is still favoured over an eSIM. Is it the same where you are?
