I'm fairly new to all this stuff and it's been a big headache, can anyone give me pointers?
It seems like the drivers are pretty obscure. The sound worked fine for windows 95, windows 98 doesn't like it.
I only care about having sound T~T

It is a modem without actual sound output other than the little buzzer...

What do you intend to use this card for ...?

Then the question becomes, what is the motherboard ? Got photos ? Once chips are identified, it shouldn't be a problem to find drivers etc.

Not sure what the motherboard is, but this is the sound chip

I downloaded CMI8330 drivers after discovering that that my chip is a rebranded version, but to no avail, maybe I'm trying to install them wrong? I kept pointing the driver installer towards the drivers and it would default to a completely different driver in a completely different directory. I've also tried deleting all other audio devices in device manager, and upon reboot, it never gave me the option to choose or cancel the driver installation.

Use this driver CD: https://archive.org/details/PCChipsMotherboardCD2_3

Should have the audio driver you need on it. It mentions the M571.

Looks like this one https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/pcchips-m571-v7.0 - try the drivers from the page. It seems it may be an unusual version though

Installed one of those driver packages, no more yellow exclamation mark on sb16 but wss still has problems, and there is still no audio
