Hi! I want to share my experience restoring a pair of old Samsung SMS-7631 PC speakers. When I first got them, they looked awful, but after a deep clean, removing scratches with a pencil eraser, retrobrighting the front panels, and cleaning the grill cloth, they started to look promising.Unfortunately, during the restoration, I found that the speaker surrounds turned to dust at the slightest touch. I decided to replace the entire drivers and also upgraded the tweeter capacitors to foil ones—I got everything from AliExpress. Another challenge was mounting them into the original holes, so I had to use some washers.
I think the final result was well worth it. Maybe not in terms of financial value, but definitely for the satisfaction of saving them from the landfill. Plus, the audio quality has improved significantly. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
