Hi guys,

I have a 486 PC that I got for free from a convention's free table last year, and I recently decided to install OS/2 Warp 3 (Connect) on it. Everything works as intended (Sound card, MIDI, Video Playback, etc) and I am able to get the card's 256 colour output with it (t's a Trident TGUI9400CXi 1MB).

However, when I use my video card's drivers and set the display to 256 colour, the Windows apps and the full screen mode for the Windows environment is all glitched out and is basically unusable. When I revert back to the stock VGA drivers, the Windows apps and full screen environment works just fine. DOS apps are unaffected by the drivers (Probably unrelated to the issue, but still worth noting).

If you have any ideas on what I could do to resolve this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Which driver version are you using (later than version 3.0.01b from October 94?). Don't think Trident OS/2 Warp 3 support for the 9400 was that great - have seen similar reports of winos2 problems with this chip.

I'm using thr 3.0.01b drivers as mentioned.

I hope this helps.

I'm wondering.

Would installing a fixpack fix the issue, or is there a newer driver I could try.

I've yet to find a 9400 driver newer than 3.0.01b (which was never intended for Warp 3 anyway, only 2.x versions). Fixpacks are one option, but can be somewhat 'risk / reward' unless you're sure they fix any specific issue without introducing others.

Might be worth trying a test install of Warp 4 which may have better 'OOTB' support for the card.

I noticed that in the Readme document for the driver that it said it was intended for OS/2 2.x, I didn't think it would be that big of a deal, as I am still able to get 256 colour despite this.

I'll most likely experiment with both OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 Warp 4, and see which one works the best for that machine.

Even with this issue on hand. I do have a Pentium computer with Windows 3.11 installed on it that I received from my uncle years ago (I originally put Windows 3.1 on it when I was 16, and upgraded it to 3.11 a few years ago for TCP/IP support).
