This is an interesting drive, and I've not been able to find any information about it online, or find anything else like it. I'm guessing it was probably very short lived.
IIRC, without the adapter, in a normal PC it functions as a 720KB drive, but wouldn't read all 720s that I tested it with (it's been a while).
The adapter has a single 7438N which sets pin 2 - density select.
The drive itself is quite distinctive with that wide eject button.
When googling I found a pic of a Powermate 386 with a similar looking drive in a bay adapter like this. Being NEC that would make sense. 😄
Does anyone know, or have a Powermate 386 with original 3.5" FDD and can confirm?
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got 5-pin DIN.
