Hi all,
I wanted to share a curious thing I discovered while reparing this old PC of a friend of mine: he said it suddenly died last time he turned it on: after some initial investigation I discovered (I am privvy to CRT design and repairs) the EAT Horizonal Deflection transistor failed (shorted), specifically Q410 or a 2SD1427 1500V 5A To247 package - but that's not the curious thing I was talking about - let me elaborate. Naturally the first thing I did is search for the service manual which I of course found (Amstrad_PC1512_PC-MM_PC-CM_Service_Manual.pdf) rather easily and started looking into the Color Monitor (CM) version schematics. This manual has both the Color and Monochrome schematics for those who don't know, and they are presented in 3 parts each, the PCB layout, the EAT/CRT Monitor schematic and the PC Power Supply schematic, all seperately. Well to my surprise there is no Colour Monitor EAT schematic, it's totally missing from the Service manual. Mind you, not the scans of it, the original Service manual itself as the page numbers all checkout apparently. The Monochrome schematics are all present (page 40 of the manual is the MM EAT schematic) but only the Colour Monitor schematics are presented on page 41, not the EAT. Furthermore, the PCB layout of the CM model is older respect to the one my friend has as some components are moved and component names changed - that's reasonable as more revisions were produced with minor modifications. I searched for other versions of the manual but found none so if any of you happen to have an updated Service manual please let me know for future reference.
Cheers!
