Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem with the Monkey Island 1 Talkie version. The game crashes every time a sound effect is played. I'm running it using the command:

monkey.exe s220/5/1

The music and speech work perfectly, but the game hangs whenever a sound effect is triggered. For example, opening the Scumm Bar door.

Monkey Island 2 works perfectly with the same setup.

The sound card is a Yamaha OPL3-SAx, configured as a Sound Blaster Pro, and it is integrated into a Toshiba laptop.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this issue? Thanks in advance.

if you are using CTMOUSE for mouse driver try and use the MS driver and see if that makes any difference

Thx a lot, but it works in that way even if the mouse driver is not loaded.

What's your CPU speed? There are some issues with sound in games from that era on CPUs that are too fast.

I don't have any specific recommendations, though (aside from the above CTMOUSE comment. CTMOUSE causes Fate of Atlantis to crash for me).

the sx/y/z command line parameter is address/irq/Kbuffsize, not address/irq/dma, it's hard coded to DMA 1. Use "s220/5/8" (8K audio buffer being the default).

Thanks a lot! I have tried disabling both caches, built it doesn’t work. It I disable the speech it works properly, so I will play in that way. Thanks a lot!

This was exactly my problem when my GoldLib card still had the old firmware that grabbed DACK2. After the new firmware on the card was on the problem went away.

I’m almost certain there is a resource conflict somewhere in your system.

Thanks a lot, everything is complicated with this laptop. It happened the same with Prince of Persia 2 and by substituting a file it works flawlessly.
