Okay, not quite out of the woods yet. Good God, this game is notoriously hard to get working right! So on my retro PC, despite accidentally getting the videos to play properly, now they're not all of a sudden. And no matter what I install or uninstall doesn't seem to make a difference. Plus, to top it all off, now the audio is playing really fast that everyone sounds like a chipmunk.

Atp with what you explained, this game just worked better with DxWnd + GOG version combination on VMware Windows 11

Ah, but I'm trying to get it working in a native Windows 98 environment. ^^;

Okay, so the weird sped up voices are the result of using my Yamaha sound card. God only knows why. I swear I had it set to that yesterday evening and the audio was fine. But yeah, if I set it to my SB Live! it's all fine. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the pauses to go away again. I really have no idea what I did differently. I tried uninstalling Mediamantics, reinstalling, adding the update, installing PowerDVD... There's still a slight pause. So maybe it's related to something else...? Will have to look at trying a different version of DVDExpress.

Hmm. So further testing with 86Box, and using a faster DVD drive with a speed of 48x seems to help, which makes sense. Although the DVD drive I’ve been using is, I think, 24x…? I would have thought that would have been fast enough…?
