This looks like these might be some decent coolers for socket 462!!!

Thanks for that. Best 462 cooler I've seen so far. Can't find reviews on it so we'll see how it goes.

And this is exactly the reason I am going to make mounts for using newer coolers on older systems.

Godspeed. That is an effort with one big hurdle: The design of the socket. The die of the CPU does not align with the highest point of the socket. That means you most likely can't use a completely flat cooler, like for example a 939 boxed cooler.

You can clearly see the "issue". Apart from that the sockets are often directly surrounded by SMD parts, which are all differently aligned on different boards. The same mounting bracket i have build for my water cooling works without any collisions on an K7S8X Rev. 1.02, collides a little on a K7S8X Rev 3.0 and same for the A7N8X - not that it makes it impossible to use in my case, but larger coolers are really a space problem from my experience.

That's why I opted for the AIO route, which turned out to work just fine:

If there's interest, I can share the 3d printing files soon, this is still the first rev and I have some ideas for improvements. It works with the https://marsgaming.eu/en/liquid-cooling/ml-one120 and https://marsgaming.eu/en/liquid-cooling/ml-one240.

I have the more robust ABS variant laying around as well, but could not be bothered to switch.. that little bending doesn't matter to me right now.

A bit more on the overclockin topic: I've had some time yesterday. The A7N8X works with 220MHz, even had 224 going for a quick test. Slowly getting there. The ASUS will get a poly mod + vmods next week, as I'm not happy with the VCore limitation at all. The Vmod for the K7S8X memory will come next week as well.
With some luck some new score this evening from me.

Following. I cannot for the life of me find good coolers in the UK, and of course I need 2 of them. I was almost contemplating modifying some Chinese waterblocks for when I get a pair of Bartons working.

The VCore mod will be a must - the CPU feels like it can do more raw clock.. Next week will show..
But glad the board goes to the 231MHz FSB right away..

Managed to swap to my Bartons today, and do the software mods. It was a bit touch-and-go doing the L5 bridge mods but we're there anyway. Next will be figuring out the socket multiplier mod, as my board will only let me get up to 12.5 - watch this space in the next couple of weeks

Build thread
2x Athlon XP Barton @ 1875MHz (150FSB @ 12.5, 1.6v) (MP Modded)

Nvidia 7800GS @ 455MHz / 1305MHz

My Soyo Dragon, one of my favorites, a project that turned out well. I've played through Max Payne and Half Life on this system. After I had recapped it, I found there was a mod that could be done to allow the use of Palomino core CPUs (fellow Vogons members helped me track down some information that had been lost). I tried an Athlon mobile with it, but it was hit or miss on POSTing with that CPU so I gave up on it.

I hadn't powered this thing on in a while - it takes longer to POST than any other motherboard I've ever had. It doesn't seem to be a problem, just a quirk with this board, but you start to get nervous when you hit the switch and hear nothing but the fans for longer than you'd expect.

How good are these Dragon motherboards? They do look nice.

They are good, not quite great; I'd say the great boards were the Abit/Epox boards that had voltage options for seemingly everything. The Soyo has some overclocking options and has a great color scheme. I lucked into this one and have been happy with it.

If your memory latency was down to 2-2-2-5, you would be beating me 👍

Gimme your water cooler and I won’t complain 🤣

I have a XP-M 2400 45w with “I” stepping the mail to play with.

… and a beautiful Soltek SL-75FRN2-L Golden Flame arriving. Not sure if it’s any good at overclocking. I bought before joining the competition.

Though not a contender for the top spot, I thought I'd get a score from an Albatron KT400 board I have. When I last tried it out a year or two ago It effortlessly overclocked a 2500+ to 3200+. But trying it out yesterday, it kept having issues. I suspect faulty caps, so I'll have to recap it and try again.

I like the color scheme. Though I think that silver Soyo Dragon that was shown in a recent thread is possibly the best looking motherboard ever.
