Been trying to play The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes, DOSBox 72, cant get it to work. I used to play it without any problems under previous versions of DOSBox but now for some reason cant, getting problems with memory. Tried all the settings I can think of but its continually giving me errors about not enough base memory.

Tried setting game itself to use expanded memory and without, but doesn't make any difference. Tried typing mem before running the game.exe file but still doesn't work.

Anyone else able to get it to work under DOSBox .72?

On a side note, can get Grand Prix 2 working, but cant have any of the graphical options on otherwise framerate is too slow. Is there a way I can run GP2 with SVGA and all options turned on in graphics?

have you tried loadfix (check the readme for it)
for SVGA games you need a pretty fast computer

If you use a frontend such as D-fend reloaded you can easily configure the memory options and of course you can increase the base memory.
I remember having memory or hard disk capacity problems with old games and i increased the amount of memory and HD space using the frontend's options.
I have the CD version of the game and the floppy too, and i never met memory problems using DOSBox 0.72. The game seems to run fine.
Which version do you have?

Thanks for the advice, I have now resolved the problem, still not 100% sure how or why but I went back to older version of DOSBox, 0.63, basically had two versions of DOSBox installed. Installed using 0.63, then found the game worked ok in both 0.63 and 0.72.

Took game off my system again just to try and work out what was causing the problem, installed and tried to run using just 0.72, had same problem where it would not load due to memory problems. Did the clean install again using 0.63 and then game ran fine in both versions, bit strange but it seems something is wrong when installing game using 0.72. but once installed under older version the game runs fine no matter which version of DOSBox I use.

Oh yeah I do use a front end, DOS Box game launcher, I used to use the original D-Fend but switched to DBGL when they stopped updating D-Fend. I might give new version a go at some point although I am quite happy with DBGL. I did try all the options for memory but nothing worked until I went back to older version of DOSBox.

Anyway thanks for the help. Bye.

I installed the CD version of the game without any problems using version 0.72. It is really aukward indeed, that you such a problem with 0.72 have.
But since you solved it, even using version 0.63, too it's ok. 😀

ok you got it working with 0.72, that just confuses me more as to why mine wont work when installing using 0.72. Guess for now it doesn't really matter since its working, I've made a rar file of the working install now so hopefully in future I can just extract it and wont get any problems cause I wont need to do a proper install ever again.
